Hiking Shoes

Most people do not really know what to look for when they go to purchase their first pair of hiking shoes. At best they are probably going to be guided by brand recognition and what they have seen advertised in magazines and such. But this is a buying decision that should really be guided by the type of hiking that you are intending to do. For example, boots made by popular brands are probably ideal for people who intend to do light hiking on well worn paths. In other words, no need to get fancy or sophisticated if you are not going to be pushing yourself out on the trails much.

On the other hand, if you are going to be blazing some serious trails out there then you might want to step up to real backpacking boots. These will be a bit more rugged and probably more expensive then other options, but they will be well worth it for you if you are really going to hit some challenging terrain.

You should make sure that any hiking shoes you buy are made of genuine leather, as it is more breathable and durable than imitation products. If you are serious about hiking then you should not scrimp on the shoes as they are your most important piece of gear by far. Spend the extra money and get a quality product that will last for years. In fact you will probably save money in the long run by spending more up front, as the quality hiking boots will last long enough to pay for themselves a few times over in most cases.
